Title: Vruca Rakija Hot Toddy
Categories: Serbian Alcohol Holiday
Yield: 1 Servings

1/2cSugar
3cWater
1 1/2cSLIVOVICA (Plum Brandy)*

This drink is typically served on Serbian (Orthodox) Christmas Eve as a festive part of the celebration. This doesn't mean one must wait until Christmas to imbibe it. It is easy to make, but one must be certain to watch at all times to assure the sugar does NOT burn.

Slowly brown the sugar in a large STAINLESS steel pot. When browned, remove from the heat and CAREFULLY add the SLIVOVICA and water. Return to the heat until the mixture comes to a boil and the sugar is entirely melted. BE CAREFUL THAT IT DOES NOT BOIL OVER! Stir completely. Serves 10.

THIS RECIPE REQUIRES CONSTANT WATCHING. KEEP A STIRRING SPOON HANDY.

*BRANDY, or WHISKEY may be substituted if SLIVOVICA is unavailable. However, SLIVO (PRONOUNCED: SHHLEE-vo-vitz-ah), is obtainable at BEVERAGES AND MORE, or other good liquor retailer.
